March 13 (Bloomberg) -- Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina was elected as the first non-European pope in more than 1,200 years and chose the name of Pope Francis I for his pontificate. He takes over from Benedict XVI, who became the first pope in 600 years to abdicate when he retired on Feb. 28. (Source: Bloomberg)
