MANILA - A new Internet viral video featuring a K-pop song has caught fire among Pinoy netizens.
The Gwiyomi song is a Korean music single spreading thru viral videos. It was released on February 18, 2013 by K-pop indie singer Hari.
The single has no official music video because it was released as an independent digital single in Korea. But the song went viral after Jung II Hoon of K-pop group BTOB uploaded a version a few days after Hari's release.

A continuous flow of viral videos has helped the single gain popularity in various Asian countries such as Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan and even China. According to China Internet Information Center, many Chinese Internet users have uploaded videos containing different versions and interpretations of the Gwiyomi video craze.

Filipinos have caught the viral craze with a growing number of video versions being uploaded.
Comedian-TV host Vice Ganda introduced the “Gwiyomi Song” dance craze on the ABS-CBN noontime variety show “It’s Showtime” last April 4, 2013.

According to reports, Gwiyomi literally means "cute spoon" in Korean. Many netizens have coined it as a "cutie song."
The song feels like a nursery rhyme for cute girls. It's a bit too cheesy for my taste, but I think they could use this viral video to spread positive vibes of peace and cuteness in North Korea amid the security crisis on the Korean Peninsula.
Fans and netizens have said that the Gwiyomi viral video dance craze could overtake the recent “Harlem Shake” in viral popularity. Let's see.
